The Academic Computing staff is comprised of four full time staff members and six part time student assistants. Student assistants are cross-trained in all three areas of the division (training, media, and labs) and can help with any area as needed.
Thomas Edward Marcais graduated cum laude with the class of 2000 from Lynchburg College with a BA in Mathematics and Music. Building on his four years experience as a student technical assistant, he was hired by Lynchburg College as a PC Networking & Software Support Specialist. In 2001, he took a position as Computer Support and Service Specialist for the Book Shop at Sweet Briar College and was later promoted to Computer Store Manager. Then, in the fall of 2002 he accepted the position of Academic Technology Trainer and Consultant at Sweet Briar College. In his current job position, he is responsible for developing and delivering classes, presentations, workshops and consulting for students, faculty and staff in computer applications supported on the Sweet Briar College campus including Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop Elements, Dreamweaver, Blackboard, and Macintosh OSX. He has extensive knowledge in both the Macintosh and Windows environment, both in software and hardware. Putting this knowledge to use, he strives to continue developing training courses that meet the needs of the college community.
